Craig Wotto Watkins (International Artist - United Kingdom)
Craig ‘wotto’ Watkins drew constantly as a child and remains an addict to this day. He studied in the UK and graduated with an honors degree in Illustration in 1999. Once out into the big bad world he gained a position as an in-house illustrator for a start up internet company. There he created characters and online games and quickly learned that digital art was a nice fit for his style. A few years later he packed up his doodles and pencils and headed off to London, where he freelanced as an illustrator. The UK capital is where the nickname ‘wotto’ was born and stuck like mud to a blanket. Wotto began drawing on his doodled past and forged a very unique, slightly dark style.
After a year in the ‘Big Smoke’ Wotto moved on again, travelled a little, lived a little and ended up in Scotland. Here he set about reworking his entire portfolio, going back to painting as well as progressing digitally. Wotto is renowned for his cute and macabre characters. Recently he has attracted clients such as Cumberland Farms for character design commissions. His work can also be seen in galleries stretching from the UK to the US and this is an area he is keen to build on in the coming years. Wotto describes his work as “developing characters and attempting to take cute into dark places through a visual narrative.” Each of his characters has a story, something to share and a life of their own.
